Only members that have reached 3000 posts (excluding moderators, who are always just 'Moderator') get custom titles. At that point, you PM Snooty with what you want it to be and he changes it for you, but you can't get a custom title prior to then.

If you're curious, I think these are the ranks we still use (list mostly quoted from a 2004 thread):

5-14 Newbie
15-24 Occasional Visitor
25-49 Friendly Neighbour
50-74 Roomie
75-99 Simmer
100-149 Forum Friend
150-249 Forum Junkie
250-499 Sims Addict
500-749 Well-Known Sim
750-999 Forum Veteran
1000-1499 Simsational Poster
1500-1999 Beyond Devoted
2000-2999 Sim Goddess [by default, can be changed to 'Sim God' by Snooty]
3000+ custom title
