Post Forum Etiquette: Posting on Old Topics?
I'm relatively new to this forum and I was wondering if it is better to start up a new topic on something that has already been discussed, but not recently.

Or, should someone post on the old topic if they really want to join in the discussion.

Sorry if this topic seems pointless, but this really bothers me and I didn't want to be rude by assuming one or the other and making a nuisance of myself. :indifferent:

17) DUPLICATE TOPICS
If you are a new user, please use the search function before posting a new topic, because there is a good chance someone will have already answered your question. You can find the search function here:
http://www.snootysims.com/forum/search.php
If you have posted a duplicate topic, it will usually be locked, but if it is, a link will be given to the original thread where you can feel free to post in. That way everybody that did take part in the old thread can be read. Having two threads about the same topic just confuses people and makes the site less organized.

From the rules but on the new forum it searches certain words and if you try to make a topic it will log it but on this forum best to bump/post on the olds ones since the db is huge now. Unless it's in chatter where that's different I think. Who knows i been here to long lol.

Welcome to the forum.

Or, should someone post on the old topic if they really want to join in the discussion.

Yeah, but the only problem with that is if you post on an old topic one of the mods will just reprimand you about "bumping old topics" and lock the thread, just like they did to a new member in the AL thread. Way to alienate new members!

I think it would depend on how old the topic. If it's a couple of years I would just make a new topic. But a couple of months I would think it would okay.

Most of the ones in the AL forum that were locked were about 6 months old. Besides if you look at that member's posts they were spammy in nature. We edit, lock, merge and whatever lots of topics and posts on a daily basis. If members feel alienated because we do our jobs then that's their problem.

Btw, that rule up there is one of the old ones. We have newer rules. You can bump a topic, yes, if you genuinely have something to add. If a topic is really old or off the first page we're not going to mind if you make a new one.

I'm just saying that some of the mods here are very rude and condescending. They wield their "power" with unnecessary arrogance. And I would say that if you alienate enough members, it will be your problem, as there is no forum without members.

Hm. Well you can PM me about whoever it is you have problem with. I'm open to listening to your concerns on the staff members. As a staff we want to do our best job and not be rude or condescending. I was being a tad harsh saying "it's their problem". A forum wouldn't be a forum without members but it wouldn't be a good forum without staff members who do their jobs.
