 How long...
Does it take you to finish a house? I mean from the ground up to the little knick knack clutter objects? I've been working on a house for 8-10 hours in between these few days. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist so I want things to look a certain way and spend time downloading custom creations and editing them through the color palette. I'm starting to find it tedious... but before I start a family/sim/story I always work on the house first before I play. I'm working on a two story 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, a grand room to fit four children, living room with an adjoined side laundry room, a small kitchen, an outside patio with recreation, and a side garden with a mini-playground for the children. Does it matter that you plan every little detail or a random furnished house will do? ... and I find it terribly upsetting when my game freezes and I have to abort it and lose all the work I did before a save. (I do tend to save a lot to keep from re-doing everything)

 Re: How long...
I guess about 5 or 6 hours. Although if I'm just making over a house, it takes 2-4 hours. I plan all my houses accordingly to how I want them to appear rather than a toilet in the hallway and a kitchen in a bedroom or something like that.

 Re: How long...
I've only sat down to make house twice. The last one took about 2 hours. Very small, simple house just to serve to a bigger story. The other took forever. About 5 hours and it was a small house. I usually play legacy style. So my houses come along over time.

 Re: How long...
When I had a computer that could run with the graphics up, I use to make houses often, even uploaded a few. I guess it varies on how picky I am. It feels like most of them only took a few hours to finish.

 Re: How long...
Oh god... I can lay down the walls, furnature, and do the outside landscaping in about 1-3 hours, but when it comes to wallpapers and styling.. I take for-fucking-ever. And I'm too much of perfectionist. So, I'm gonna estimate anywhere from 6-8 hours. Or more. That duplex I worked on took years, and it suckedi n the end anyways. OH well, haha.

 Re: How long...
I take forever on houses. I used to build a lot more in the sims 2 than the sims 3. but I still do it occasionally. I normally take a a fair few hours on a house, but more recently my gameplay has changed a little and i'm forever changing, editing, moving and redoing the current house I play in, otherwise I get totally bored with the game. Sims 2, I used to just build a house and play a family there for generations. Now I need to change it every few simdays or so.

 Re: How long...
Hmm, an interesting thin that brings to mind is that I too havm't ever built any houses specifically for a certain sim. I always build houses for my CAW hood or just add on to my current house.

 Re: How long...
Depends! In the Sims 2.... forever. I have to admit, with the Sims 2 I was really badly addicted to micromanaging my game, lol so I had the same Sims still from when the game first came out. For instance, if I were to reload the Sims 2 again and play, Nina & Dina would still be there (elders of course) and Angela & Dustin would still be the Mayor and CEO respectively etc. LOL So, back then I really put alot of time into my houses because I always was starting something "new" rather than finishing with something "old". I remember spending hours upon hours redoing the cemetary and I swear maybe 6 Sims ended up in it after I was done. LOL I never experienced the full effect of the generations aspect of the game. Since micromanaging is impossible basically in the Sims 3 I'm being more laid back, and that includes houses. However, I have built 2 allready. I did so much building in the Sims 2 that building to me is second nature. I whipped up a gorgeous three bedroom bayside home I think in about 3 hours. I don't furnish them though if I plan for a specific Sim to move there. I like to pack their belongings up in their inventories and move them in there if it goes with the new house, if not I sell it off.
That one section that comes in SV up on the hill going towards the waterfall where all the empty lots are I'm going to make a "modern" neighborhood of houses. It's pefect like a complex I grew up in. Their all gonna be my style which will be more contempary style homes then the older traditional stuff Sims games always seem to launch with. I think I may make them shells to start off with so I can save them and use them in other worlds and stuff and just customize them when I need them.

 Re: How long...
If I build from scratch and do it make a sim move in from start I take really long, still got a house I'm not done with that should resemble what our dreamhouse IRL would look like with Simstyling....
But if I make house from scratch I need to use cheat for any sim to be able to afford it from start... my prices starts at about 250.000 simeleons I think it was last time I got done with one...
I take forever also with planning ahead of how the rooms should connect... should there be a garden in the middle or not... should there be cellars and if so what should be in them... and from where should you be able to acces it... and then the garden... should I have high or fence around it, what kind of surface should there be where...
So yearh I'm also a perfectionist also why I once uploaded the kitchen stuff I had made for a house because I had done it ALL in it in woodtheme with a certain nuance that I don't think i can remake today... took really long time just with the kitchen.. think maybe spent 2-3 hours with just that room... but that is then also down toe very tiny detail like colouring the cabinets and nick nacks hanging on the wall...
