Re: The Curruption of TSR (And ,indirectly, EA) 3/30/09
Hey everyone! I just wanted to make sure everyone has a heads up about the latest TSR related controversy. A list of names have been passed around by a now former member which contain personal full names and email addresses. I want to stress that this list came from a hacked petition that took place over the summer before TS3 came out and is NOT from the TSR database. Either way it's still serious and illegal (especially the action that was taken to retrieve this list). If you haven't seen the list you can find it here: http://tsr.mustbedestroyed.org/?p=858#more-858I'm not completely up to date with the discussion since I just got home from classes, but I've read that the member responsible for spreading it to so many people, CarpeDiem aka Atwa, has since been given the sack. Only time will tell if she'll be let back in again. It's unclear how directly this is related to TSR, but someone is responsible for rehiring her after she has been banned several times for her behavior. If you're curious there are a few places you can follow the discussion: PMBD (starts here: http://phorum.mustnotbenamed.com/index.php/topic,2399.2130.html) Garden of Shadows ( http://www.digitalperversion.net/garden ... ic=15782.0) Sims 2 Live Journal Community ( http://community.livejournal.com/thesims2/6672103.html) Anyway, I mostly just wanted to make sure everyone who is potentially vulnerable knows about the list.

Wow, that's really stupid that someone would do that. I hadn't heard about this till just now. I don't know where it explains why this happened but do you know why they were posting everyone's personal imfo, or where it explains how this initially happened?

Yeah, note to self: don't sign any more online petitions against EA, especially for Bluesoup.

Ooooh I see, I thought it was the emails of everyone who were members at TSR, so I wondered why I couldn't find mine in there. I didn't read far enough to catch the part about the petition against EA. Still that's bullshit they would do that.

It's probably best not to sign any online petitions at all. (>_<) It's mostly concerning how they or Atwa got the information since it certainly wasn't by any legal means. They're statements haven't been very good either. Someone needs to teach them proper PR.

Re: The Curruption of TSR (And ,indirectly, EA) 3/30/09
Which link? they're all working for me... :( I've pretty much summed it up I think, though there are more details now which I think are best seen in the context they originated from. One thing is fairly certain is that Thomas did give the information to Atwa et al. so, now I'm just wondering how or who he got the information from. Either way it's shady business. :/ This is the current summary of what I have if you still want it: Blue Soup's petition (which was supposedly only to be seen by her and EA) was reportedly hacked -> Thomas from TSR somehow get's the info -> Thomas passes it on to other staff members including now former SA CarpeDiem/Atwa, falsely claiming that all these people are TSR "pirates" (I know this is false because I'm on there and, yes, I regret my naivety of online petitions) -> Atwa get's caught by Coconut -> Coconut reports -> Crap hits the fan (I don't like swearing ;;>_>) -> PMBD members eventually figure out it's from Blue Soup's petition -> Thomas apparently claims he got the info from EA -> Steve (also of TSR) posts a straw man argument styled statement I think that's it so far.... The info on the list most likely isn't too damaging, but the nature of this behavior is still terrible. :(

I haven't received any spam like that, or if I have Hotmail is doing a good job of filtering it. I've been getting email spam long before I signed up to TSR. ^^;; Plus it's possible that it's another website that sold your information. Many call centers do it too with people's phone numbers. I know I get lots of long distance calls ever since I donated to WWF a few years ago. :/ (I don't know if they are responsible or not though.)
