Post TSR releases Sims 3 CC workshop soon (totally FREE !!!!)
The TSR team have been developing a Custom Content tool for Sims 3 for some time now. We have all been spoilt with the level of customization for Sims 2 and want the Sims 3 CC experience to be even better. This time around we have decided to publish our own set of tools.

Many people are aware of our CC tool for Sims 2 which is used by some of our FA’s and invited creators, but we never made a public release. This time around we plan to release a freeware tool for the whole community!

To find out more and to follow development, check out the dedicated pages for the Workshop at www.thesimsresource.com/workshop.

Update:

Just to clarify some questions:

1. The tool will be free for everyone to use, no limitations.

2. Content produced with the tool can be uploaded anywhere you want, there are no restrictions such as only uploading to TSR.

3. We will not claim any ownership over any content produced with this tool, the EULA is there to protect the artists. Hope this answers some of your concerns!

There has been quite a few questions regarding this, so I'd like to clarify our plans for The Sims 3.

1. Will you provide custom content for The Sims 3?

Yes, we will continue to provide/host custom content in the same way as we do now for The Sims 2. Once the game ships we will accept submissions for lots and patterns. Once our Workshop tool is ready we will accept submissions for all other type of custom content that you are used to (new mesh sets, clothing, hair etc). We will begin a new team of Featured/Select Artists focused on The Sims 3 (not all will jump onto the The Sims 3 bandwagon) - look for this announcement once CC is fully enabled. This also means we will continue to provide both free and subscriber content, like we do now.

2. What about subscriptions - will the subscription I buy now also give me access to The Sims 3 content?

Yes it will. There will always only be one subscription type and it gives you access to all our catalogues of content. There will not be a The Sims 3 only subscription.

3. What about Screenshots, Stories, Challenges etc?

Our ambition is to provide this as well for The Sims 3. The official site will focus a lot on movies and machinima, but for those hooked on writing stories the way we present them we will continue to provide this feature. Challenges the way we do them now will require some more time, we'll see what happens.

Hope this clears up some of your thoughts and concerns regarding our future plans for The Sims 3!

It looks like a great thing, but it seems some people are boycotting TSR, (for a reason unbeknownst to me) so I don't know whether it will be some sort of a travesty or something.

I can't believe no one here hasn't heard about the Shakeshaft theft from TSR from Mod the Sims 2. Shakeshaft took someone else's mesh and used it, then when it was discovered by the meshmaker, she found out her account had been hacked on Mod The Sims 2. That's pretty serious in my opinion. Delphy never really resolved it, so it's been dropped, I guess. Also, password security on TSR is a nightmare. They've had several breaches in their security on their servers. If anyone has an old password on this site, I'd suggest you change it, unless you want your paypal account hacked. Pescado said this 'workshop' is just a cardboard car with drawn on wheels, lol. We'll see, I guess.

It's not that surprising when you think about it. They do need to find more potential SAs and FAs. It's also beneficial for them to have something like this available first before someone else from another site do. That way it's easier to bring new people to their website to make up for the drop in visitors they've been experiencing.

As skeptical and cautious as I am with TSR's staff, it's possible it may be beneficial, or at least until someone creates something better. We'll just have to wait and see what the other mods have to say for it.

We're pretty well aware of it. ( http://www.snootysims.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=28219 )

A great tool. We can use it to make furniture, cloth and hair mesh.

I wonder if TSR already know how to create the cloth mesh, since it has ability to became thin, fat and muscular. And make it compatible with CAST too.

I hope we can also modify the fence and stair to became CASTable.

May be we can see many imported objects, clothes and hair from TS2 and TS2 CC in just couple of months ahead.

I also hope the tool can create rabbit hole buildings too.

Did I understand that right...?

The tool can open Sims 2 files and output Sims 3 format files?

Does this mean... converting our favorite objects? :shh:

It would be great, wouldn't it! Let's hope they can include that feature.

Still don't like that this has been created by T$R. Like eeyore-chan said, they'll probably still send out e-mails trying to woo free TS3 creators into becoming their FAs and SAs.

But the worst part about this is that T$R has the upper hand. They've been working on this since January. By the time T$R releases it to "the commoners", they'd've already had extensive knowledge of the program while everyone else will be learning the basics of it. That means, they may be churning out CC way before anyone else will be, thus dominating TS3 CC in the early weeks/months.

Thanks, I guess. :grumpy:

Okay, I may be playing devil's advocate here but I think some of you are really ungrateful simmers. I'm not a member of TSR and I'm against paysites, but this has nothing to do with that.
TSR is developing a FREE custom content tool for all the creators to use. Months ago we were afraid we wouldn't have CC for the sims 3 because the game is too complex and people were complaining about that. What's the problem now? The tool will be free, and creators will be able to upload their content anywhere, so it's a good thing.

Anyway, thanks for the update StephenJSheridan

I don't think we should be called ungrateful simmers just because we don't want to support a deceitful pay site with a bad reputation.

Ayo, if you don't support them then I guess its logical for anyone to assume you won't download this new "free" tool because that would be supporting a TSR created product and it would be hypocritical of you do otherwise wouldn't it?

People will likely get it. Don't try to pick fights.

It's just not everyone is happy with TSR at the moment.
I mean, sure it's just a breach but no one panic over it.
For a paysite thats a big deal and how they handled it was bad.
Not to mention other things.

But thats not what we're here to talk about now is it?

Just don't try to pick fights. :nono:

No, the thread is about the workshop tool, not TSR, you're right, which was why I was pointing out what I did.
Please don't break a leg falling off your high horse.
