Yes, that's what it is in Greek Mythology, but the Hades that I'm referring to isn't the same. I guess they're just both named the same. Azure Lotus wrote: Mmk, isn't Hades like Greek Mythology with the whole River of Styx thing? And the whole ghost thing...wouldn't that be purgatory? Granted, that may be strictly a catholic point of view. I dunno about absurd, but definitely pell-mell. Ghosts aren't necessarily related to purgatory. Everything on this Earth is made of energy, and both humans and the Earth are magnets. The Earth remembers us. When we leave behind strong emotions or attachments, we leave behind a brand on the Earth. This causes memories of our beings to repeat over and over as they had been in our life. When a household 'haunting' takes place, but the 'ghost' moves in strange ways (moving down through air where stairs used to be but have been removed, moving through walls), this is called a residual haunting and is a direct memory of the energy we left behind. These are not always apparent to everyone when they occur, though people with ESP (I have it) are particularly sensitive to these sorts of hauntings compared to other people. The other type of haunting, an intelligent haunting, could possibly be what people consider spirits trapped in purgatory. A spirit with patterns of an intelligent haunting are able to communicate (although limited) with other living things and may also be able to manipulate their surroundings (often very limited; exceptional ability to manipulate surroundings is often blamed upon other supernatural events and beings, which I will not discuss at this time). These spirits are still considered to possess their mortal souls, while residual hauntings are usually restricted to repeated memories of a person's energy. Hi, my name's Icarus; I study things.

I've thought that, that your life is a never ending cycle of birth, death, birth again... etc. Not very fun for babies that die in childbirth though...

I don't care anymore. I could care less if nothing happens. I am more focused on the life I have now.

Re: What Do You Believe Happens When You Die?
I think something happens after death, Either it be reincarnation or Simply onto whatever the next life is. There is bound to be something.
Heaven and Hell are both on Earth, But not just our planet, but in the sense of this Life. It's just a mental being, Not a place.
Saying that there is nothing after death might be what most people prefer to think. To think that all they do in this life is accounted for here. It gives them reason to be wild, "Live everyday as if it's your last".
Eh, Every believes their own thing.
This all coming from someone who is not religious mind you. I'm just very open minded. I can admit that there is things beyond our control, that play in with our everyday. There is no fate. You make your own life. You can't live in denial of things you do in the past by blaming it on Fate. Though thats a bit offtopic. And I'm rambling. So, I guess the above is my View.
I think Deja Vu is a very puzzling feeling. I believe it's a Reminder of something you've done in a Past Life. Because if there is something beyond this life, Why shouldn't there be a Past?

Therefore he should ne in heaven, whereas that dirty heathen Ghandi deserves hell, am I right? Well... Ghandi is one of my heroes... Hell doesn't sound that bad anymore! I wonder if John Lennon's there... ?

Re: What Do You Believe Happens When You Die?
But you get people who say "But if we got rid of religion there'd be more rapists and murders because they'd have nothing to fear when dying", which, not only is it stupid because most people have morals and only sadistic psycopaths would do that religious or not, it also shows how religion is a way of controlling people by the priests by saying "do this or burn for eternity!" They were clever, I'll give them that, and wrote the bible well.

Re: What Do You Believe Happens When You Die?
My view on death is...different. I'm Catholic, but I view things differently. ^^ In my opinion, if you've lived a life of good, your soul goes on (Heaven in my opinion). This is regardless of sexuality, religion etc. It makes me sad when my cousins say that people who aren't Christian go to Hell. I mean, seriously. Ghandi who promoted peace to a saintly degree was not Christian (he was Hindu). And he goes to Hell? Nah. If you're a good person, you go on to Heaven. As for incarnation, I'm personally iffy on that. I don't like they idea of my soul being reincarnated. I like being Caitlin and I don't want my soul to be anyone else. But my friend explained reincarnation in an interesting way. She believes that if you're evil, God gives you another chance and reincarnates you. It sounds good to me. I was reading a book about the paranormal and one chapter brought up afterlife. It was put very interestingly. A soul is energy. According to Einstein, energy cannot be destroyed, but changed. When a person dies, depending on what they believe, it will happen to a soul. Like if a person believes in no afterlife, their soul becomes one with nature and if a person believes in an afterlife, their soul goes...somewhere. That's how my book put it Sounds cool. ^^ That's just what I kinda think. I'll find out when I die :P

Re: What Do You Believe Happens When You Die?
first off im 14 ... but i believe that nothing happens... when you die you die. nothing goes on to another plane or another world. you just die.... all my life i have wished to believe in something greater than me. god. but i don't. i know how comforting it must be to believe that when you die you will go to a paradise but sadly i just cant believe it. i want to believe it so much but i cant i am not sure why. i just think it is ignorant to think there is some super being watching me type this right now ... i am not discriminating .. my entire family is protestant and i go to church and Sunday school every Sunday. i just cant bring myself to tell my parents that i am atheist. *sighs* it would be nice to go to church and think i am being watched over but the sad thing is i don't and the fact is i never will but even if there is someone/thing watching over me and a heaven and hell i would go to hell seeing as i don't believe in him/it.

Re: What Do You Believe Happens When You Die?
The idea of heaven comes purely from human desire. I mean, in all religions it's never a normal world, it's always paradise. And there's Hell, so you obey the king's laws or go to it. It was just a way of getting power really.

Re: What Do You Believe Happens When You Die?
i am not trying to disprove your statements but......... i think that saying something is true just because a lot of people in the past think it is true is not very smart. we have disproved most things from the past 6000 years within the last hundred... i am sorry but the reason i think so many people believed it was because they wanted to believe it ... and people believe what they want to believe whether it is feasible or not. again that is just my opinion i don't mean to offend anyone of any religion or belief.
