But here's what I feel...

I have many gay and/or lesbian friends, and we all get along great because we are all normal people, but the ONE thing that annoys the hell out of me about the gay community, is that they don't want to be discriminated against...... yet they go PARADE themselves around cities, have bumper stickers that say "gay pride" all over them, and go around waving rainbow flags all over the place.

If you don't want to be discriminated against, don't go make yourselves stand out, and rub your sexuality in everyone's face. It would be no different if straight people went around parading the fact that they LOVE screwing people of the opposite sex, and throwing parades where they makeout with people on top of giant floats.

My 2 cents. Like I said, gays and lesbians are great, just keep your sex lives private like everyone else does

I'm sorry, but I don't find this humorous, and I strongly disagree. Straight women flaunt their wedding rings and yammer on and on about their new house and whatever else they feel like because they're married.

I think throwing parades is a beautiful form of expression and a way to spread acceptance and tolerance among the non-LGBT community. Not to mention (being a lesbian myself) it hurts to know that I don't have the same rights as a straight couple/person would. So before you go bashing gay pride parades by saying they're annoying and they should be kept under wraps, you should maybe think twice about what you're saying. Besides don't you think the LGBT community been suppressed enough already?

Wearing a wedding ring is a tasteful way to show you are in love, throwing a gay pride parade is COMPLETLEY another story. Maybe you haven't seen one before, but they're on top of floats making out with eachother. No matter what your sexual orientation is, I don't want to see your overly public displays of affection, no matter who you are fucking in the bedroom :nono:

I think that gays and lesbians should have all the same rights as straights, but your sex life should remain private regardless of orientation, period. I think you'll discover that many people have already agreed with me about this in this topic

And no, the LGBT or whatever community is not suppressed, it is thriving in Seattle. There are gay clubs/bars, dike marches, and gay pride parades all over the place. It's almost turning into San Francisco at this rate.

I agree with little-v.
I don't mind gay people, but over the top public displays are what makes most people hate them. I don't mind gays, I just hate the UberGay people who think that anything that upsetes them is homophobic.

you're completely ignorant if you think having parades, marches, and clubs means that it's not suppressed.
gay kids every single day have their lives threatened, get kicked out of their homes, are bullied, insulted, and isolated because of their sexual orientation. couples who have been dating for years aren't allowed to get married and the rights that come with it: visitation, joint tax returns, family insurance, etc etc etc.
parades are just an (unenjoyable, i actually think) attempt by the gay community to force the public to acknowledge them.
furthermore, in smaller towns that don't happen to be san francisco or seattle (they exist! i swear), there's nearly universally no LGBT community whatsoever: not just no bars or parades or marches, but no support groups and, obviously, no dating scene for homosexuals.

LOL, I know SO many gays/lesbians who live much happier lives here in Seattle than half the straight people I know do, with some of the most loving families I have ever met. I have yet to meet ONE gay who has been kicked out of their home. Maybe you're the one who is ignorant to think all gays are living these HORRIBLE lives that you describe

You must not be aware that there are many gay married couples in Washington State, and that there has been a law passed in Washington that gives gay couples ALL the same rights as same sex couples. So much for your "gays aren't given any of the same rights" argument

Absolutly nobody wants to be FORCED to have to acknowledge something or somebody. The more they are forced to see crap they don't want to see, the less they are going to tollerate it. Thats the reason these very public gay groups are being shunned. Public sex is not ok, no one gives a fuck who you're sleeping with so keep it to yourself

no, maybe you're ignorant because you think your perfect little life in seattle is the only thing that anyone can experience.
my own boyfriend nearly got kicked out of his home when he came out to his family, and they tried to force him to go to a psychiatrist for a looong time. even now he and his father don't get along at all because of his coming out of the closet. and not that i doubt your ability to speak for all the gay people in seattle or anything, but just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't happen every. single. day.

well you must not be aware of referendum 71, a proposed ballot initiative in washington to limit the rights given in domestic partnerships drastically. the fact is that even when gay couples have these rights, it's never a guarantee-- there's always some group out there trying to stop it. while we both know that no one is going to strip YOUR hospital visitation rights of the loved one YOU dedicate your life to, the same obviously can't be said of gay couples.

i agree. but there are public indecency laws and the right of free speech is pretty basic in america, so i don't think there's any legal argument that could be made against pride parades. sure, i don't especially like them either because they tend to make all gay people seem flamboyant and promiscuous, but i think they should definitely be allowed and i honestly don't have too much of a problem with them.

I can't help the fact that your boyfriend obviously doesn't have a family that supports him. That's not an issue of being gay, it's a family problem, and they ALL need to see a psychiatrist together. Any NORMAL family would accept and love their gay kid for who they are, not for who they're having sex with, as hard as it may be at first.

Um, yeah, I am aware of it, and I'm also aware that over 70% of Washingtonians are FOR gay rights. Yeah, that referendum hassen't even been voted on yet, and it is going to die out pretty quickly. Maybe your boyfriend should come live in Washington if he hates it so much where he is now

Wow, do you think just because everyone else agrees with you means I will? Uh, no. And I cannot believe that you talk about how gays shouldn't be mistreated but say stuff like: "It's almost turning into San Francisco at this rate."

Just because it's thriving in Seattle doesn't mean it's thriving everywhere else, either.

Wow, how the hell is saying that Seattle is practically turning into San Francisco means they are being mistreated?? That makes no sense at all, you are completely taking my words out of contect. It means the gay population in Seattle is GROWING and that homosexuality is fairly widely accepted here.

No, my argument did not just "LIEK TOTALLY CRUMBLE LMAO OMG!!" I COMPLETELY stand by my statement that public sex, no matter how graphic it is, including making out on top of floats, making out in public in general, feeling eachother up, touching eachother innapropirately, etc is NOT ok. Holding hands with someone and a kiss here and there is fine, anything else I just stated, not ok :nono:

And I can't help it that you dissagree with me. The entire point I was trying to make in this thread is that public sex of any kind, wether you're gay or straight, is not ok. You've blown my posts out of proportion and taken stuff I've said completely out of context. It's your own fault that you've done that and then taken everything I've said way too personally... not mine. You're acting like you've taken this thread as a personal bash to your own sexuality. Once again, not my issue

Regardless of sexual orientation and what not, extreme cases of public displays of affection always bothered me.
I mean, it's nice that people want to show that they "love each other so much" but... there are less obnoxious ways to do it.

Hugs and pecks are cute, but I don't know how many people want to randomly stroll the local plaza or shopping area and find two people snogging each other to death on some dirty bench. Especially a public bench that some other guy probably tooted on while eating a hot dog seconds ago. I would not be one of the people who "enjoy" seeing those things.
I think that's what Little-V has been trying to say. :silly:

But either way, hate crimes are stupid and should be pooped on. *failed aggressiveness*
And no, I'm not exactly "heterosexual" either.

Extreme displays of affection are gross to me. I can see hugging and kissing, but making out and stuff ew no. Get a room.

My main point is, in rhetoric, if your argument isn't solid, it isn't viable. You aren't bashing at me, I just find that your argument is quite amusing. And the bottom line is, you obviously just like having someone to argue with.

I wasn't the one who started this argument. I stated what I thought in this thread, a bunch of people agreed with me (including people who aren't heterosexual) and you had to disagree and say how basically nothing I say makes sense and how I'm wrong or don't know what I'm talking about and my "argument" isn't "solid" or "viable". I find your argument quite amusing as well
