 The Hobbit
Reflecting upon this movie made me realize that this is a shining example that fun adventure movies much like what the eighties had can still exist.
Movies that don't take themselves too seriously yet still had a sense of depth like Back to the Future, The Terminator, etc.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, while a masterpiece of modern cinema, still took itself very seriously and was very dark at times. While The Hobbit remains a light-hearted fun adventure flick one can indulge in the world of Middle Earth with. This is probably what most critics missed when they saw this motion picture.
It also comforts me in knowing that anything that wasn't specifically in the novel was still apart of another story of Tolkien's writings. When I found this out, I warmed my heart knowing they still respect J.R.R. Tolkien.
The only gripe I have with the movie is how Bilbo found the ring and how it didn't match the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring. Consistency in a series like this is important even if it may seem like it isn't.
