I do think that mods should generally do other things besides modding. SS is supposed to be about fun and all that, not enforcing a load of rules. You do that if neccesary, but it shouldn't take over your forum life.

I completely agree.

not really because threads like this came out
http://www.snootysims.com/forum/viewtop ... light=mods
lots of threads like that before where members wanted to be a mod and almost got it bc the community had social relationships between one another. People dislike people on this forum and they vote differently. Its basically a popular voting contest.
We let members have fun and things. But when mods has rules we have to do them first before we chat it up with you all. Like now Im helping people by pm then i post here lol

But at the same time I don't want a Mod, who is going to be all about fun, that when the time comes to enforce the rules, they can't do it, because the members think he/she is joking around and not being serious.
and that comes from Mods trying to be the Best friend of some members.

Yes, this system does work and I'm not saying we have total power who becomes a mod, but I would like mods to tell us whats going on and we can give our valuable opinions.

That thread is about people who want to become moderators of the chatroom though.

To be honest I'm less interested in how to choose new mods than what to do about mods who may no longer be appropriate, which is why I'm not happy with the 'once you're in - you're in until you decide to go' convention.

That was how Roxas got his position, and I feel like he's the best mod here. Actually I think that's one of the perfect examples of why, when left alone, Snooty makes bad choices. Nobody knew who he was back then and yet he was in a position of power right from the off... I'm not sure if Snooty expected everyone to go for it or what, but people were understandably pretty pissed off considering the usual process involves actually gaining trust and somehow proving yourself first. And as usual, I don't think he actually noticed. I do think he's a good mod these days ("the best" is a bit extreme for someone who's rarely around to even speak, let alone moderate) but I think Snooty got lucky there. He wasn't too great at first at all. I don't mean this as an attack against (past-) him, it was never going to be easy moderating a forum full of people he didn't actually know. Same here, but I'm unaware of this policy and think it might just have been pulled from nowhere. At least, I hope so.
I'm not sure where the moderator-picking discussion came from, actually (it's not too relevant as there's no reason for a new one to be hired anytime soon).

Voting a mod off is the same kind of popularity contest though. Sometimes a mod has to do unpopular things. We all have our different take on how to moderate, and I don't see why that is such a big problem. We can't all be Bonky, and we can't all be boines. As long as we get the job done - and Bonky does: he doesn't only post a lot, he's also here ALL THE TIME moderating. If he wants to post alot as well, I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed. boines has chosen to mostly moderate and not post alot, and I respect that and don't see why that should be a problem either. However, I do believe that the more active a mod is in the forum, the more s/he is here. During the Stabmixer problems, it's been Bonky and me handling the situation, and that's because we're here already participating.

I think that if moderators were removed by members it'd still turn into a popularity contest. For example as nærd said some people dislike her even though she is a good moderator. I myself am biased against one moderator and would be very tempted to vote against them, even though the reason I dislike them has nothing to do with how they moderate.

I don't think anyone's suggesting that we should have public polls for removing moderators.

No, i'm not saying we get to choose mods. I was never saying that. ITs just, maybe Snooty could say "how about I make such and such a mod". Like when Bonky and neard became mods, I barely knew who neard was! I was new though. But when they became mods it was like it was sprung out of nowhere.

Is anyone going to account for Brandina's missing posts? He said that he's sure that he posted them and that he didn't delete them himself. If that's the case, then not only are threads mysteriously vanishing, so are individual posts. Apparently we can rule boines out, because he said that he's never been in that thread.
