We all know it shouldn't, and reading other peoples conversations are juicy and keep us from being bored, but there is always those few mentally challenged individuals who think otherwise, what do you think?

The rule that mentions "one-on-one" interchanges presumably refers to extended personal conversations only relevant to the two members in question... and by 'presumably' I mean 'it specifically says so directly before the term is mentioned'. So... starting threads like 'HAY JUSTIN HOW U' would probably be frowned upon. Besides that, I see no problem unless you're going on for pages and pages within a short period of time with nobody else's participation, and that only relates to the overposting bit.

Two members replying mainly to each other is only natural on a forum where other members aren't online at the time, and it'd defeat the point of having a forum if the default mode for ALL discussion was to go to PMs unless there had to be a specific reason to have it public.

2) PERSONAL MESSAGES:
If you wish to have a personal discussion then use the private messaging system. And if this is not good enough use the chatroom:
http://www.snootysims.com/chatroom.php
With all these alternatives snooty has provided there should be no reason for you to have one-on-one conversations in these forums.

10) ARGUMENTS:
Having different opinions with someone is fine, we believe in freedom of speech, but abusive arguing will not be tolerated. If an discussion begins to get too heated just back off or take it to PM so others don't know about it. Abusive arguers will be warned, and unproductive arguments will be deleted.

14) OFF-TOPIC COMMENTS:
Ok this one isn't *too* important, but if you can try and stay talking about the topic that you are posting in that would be great. dont be afraid to make a new topic if your comments have nothing to do with the subject you are posting in. Like emoticons, typing ok, etc. If you do make a completely off-topic post, it will be edited or deleted.
If you notice a topic is drifting away from the topic say "->back on topic "

Need I say more?
Do you want a forum full of off topics and converstations of fights?
Or a peaceful forum where people get along and new memebers come and notice how great the forum is instead of reading fights/ drama/ convertations of 1on1?
And the forum is overloaded by threads AND the pm database is not

Uh thats what pm is When you relog in you see the conversations not a topic going way of topic and then it goes way beyond the importance of the topic starter.
Theres a BIG difference from OPEN discussion and 1on1 for pages and pages. You feel left out when people go on forever because of this.

So if you have to say you look nice etc go to pm because that has nothing to do with the topic most of the case. Lets have "open" discussions not 1on1 for a page about something totally off the topic.

Mods should enforce the rules when it gets out of hand.
And if you dont care about the rules or want it change then try but rules state it and been there forever. Just never enforced and I dont want the forum to become slow and useable for people. People dont need to see fights, and way off topic

You set up a totally false dichotomy where either we talk a lot and we fight, or we don't and we're peaceful. Why does it have to be one or the other?
P.s. If you don't want to overload the forum, you could leave? Assuming you'll be posting here for a long time, that should take some of the strain off

No one else seems to feel left out. You argue that people feel left out but I've never seen the slightest bit of evidence for that.

I like how you want to impose some regime that's really never existed before, where we all have to be completely on-topic and not diverge even slightly. Or when we get into a conversation with someone else, it immediately must go to PMs. It's never been like that before..
You also act like you're physically hurt by the "overloading" on the forums. If it were such a tremendous deal you'd think Snooty might have found the time to mention it at some point.

A so called "Backup forum".
It can be set that it's only readable and that no mod can moderate it.

As for backups, that's very difficult. I can't just press a button and the whole forum is backupped or restored. The forum has grown too large and I need to go into the database and download each part seperately. Takes me over an hour.
An extra problem is that the Search part is too big (over 5 million lines) and can't be backupped. So if there was ever a need to backup the whole forum, you won't be able to search old topics.

I'm still working on that though. Moving over to phpbb 3.0 is also something that must be done soon.

Mods really didn't mod this but now with all the fights we dont want to see fighting on the forum.

It's still an open discussion if there's only 2 people posting in it; someone is welcome to join in the conversation and make the conversation 1on1on1. Anyway, all these 1on1's as you like to mention are either completely on-topic or being taken off-topic by you complaining that they're 1on1.

If you don't want to see fights, then stop instigating them (i.e. this whole 1on1 thing). We've all made it quite clear that we don't like your self-imposed rules. If you're going to create new rules, at least you could follow them instead of veering Erhama's topic off-topic.

That's ridiculous. That's not the same as him commanding us to take stuff to PMs and you know it. You're extrapolating far more than what he said.

not with 2 people just fighting over and over like you are doing with me.
How can they jump in when people are fighting for a whole page? Instead wait for somebody to reply

I know what he told us ;)
The db is huge now. Because of all these threads and fighting, etc.
Mind reading the rules "again" ??? About pms?

...By pressing the "Post" button? I don't mind if people post and neither does anyone else. Anyone can interrupt a "1on1".

That was forever ago. We're not in 2004/2005 anymore. It's not the same thing.

1. I'm not mentally challenged.

I do think that the personal stuff should be in pm's. Thats what a pm is for.

Also if what you are talking about has nothing to do with the topic, then yes take it to pms.

I for one hate the feeling when i make a thread and it is hijacked by others talking about something that has nothing to do with what the OP made the thread about.

I completely agree with this.

Wasn't Justin being sarcastic here? Do you have any other examples besides this one? I find it ironic the example you gave was one where the person was complaining that you were the one being in a one on one.

You took this completely out of context. Snooty was just saying the forum was too large to create backups. Since he isn't going to be making backups, it really isn't a problem. Even if he decided we need backups, it is too late if the forum is already too large. Deleting older/useless threads seems more productive than stopping new posting.

This is ridiculous. Forums are based on DISCUSSION. If two people are talking about something and they're on topic, it should not be a problem. If they start talking about something completely off topic for pages and pages, then it is a problem but general one on one conversation is NOT A BAD THING.

I don't understand where you're coming from at all.

I just think everyone needs to calm down. This discussion is getting way to serious and stressful

Boines, I love you, but sometimes. when you can't make what you want happen, just step back for a moment, and let someone else try to handle it.

I agree. To me PMs are meant for personal discussion. Like you say, if someone is on topic it's fine even if they are the only two people discussing.

and that what i been saying ;P
On topic is fine
But all these split topics and such because of off topic means it wasn't on topic.
Thats why i posted "off topic" rule NOT on topic rule
And fighting should go to pms not out in the open because it makes the forum look "bad" for new people
Like how did ashley nose become into another thread that was nothing about her? All these split threads I'm seeing. Trying to clean it up and let people know
