I think it was also a deterrent to spamming. If members knew the thread would eventually be deleted, maybe there was a chance they wouldn't spam a topic and would instead post meaningful things.
But still, we NEVER deleted them. They were supposed to just be locked. If a mod just got confused with the rules (except, after the first time I don't know how they could do it again), I don't think anyone could get mad for that.

I kinda have a theory:
Right, so if you host a site, forum whatsoever, you either pay for it, or it's free. I don't know wether the head monitor pays for this forum or not, but that doesn't really matter.
The headmonitor(I can't firgure a better word, you know what I mean I hope) got this domain name from a site/forum hoster, right? But he has to pay for the bandwith from all the sites he hosts, I think. So , here it comes, maybe, when the bandwith, thus also size, of the forum/site exceeds a certain limit, it automaticly deletes posts to make room.
A proces in which, I think, older threads get deleted first, hence the advent calender was deleted?
Maybe I'm too naïve to believe that there are no concious evil forces at work, but then again it's just a theory.
PS: If you don't get what I mean, which I can imagine, say so , I'll try to rephrase

I think I understand what you're saying. But that couldn't happen, it just isn't how the forum software works (I know because I have experience with the same software). Also, Snooty (who is the administrator/webmaster of this forum and website) does pay for the hosting I'm pretty sure.
Even if that was how it worked, there are much older threads than the ones that got deleted. It is either a glitch (unlikely), or someone deleting the threads.. I still think Snooty should update to phpbb3 because it has moderator logs..

and getting beta would help how? If its a normal member doing it log wont show it ;P I tried to test it on phpbb3. Just split it up and not everybody is a full gm. That helps out a huge amount. Like what happened back when me and brit were only the gm's. Cleared up confusion, etc. There are scripts that log things as well. This is why i really like bbs and ibs over phpbb because of the lack of things but its not my call. So we go with whats there and use that.

phpbb3 is no longer in beta.. but if not using global mods fixes the problem then that is good. (I like to use only global mods myself, but I've heard you have a system here that works pretty well.)

It's Snooty's call, and he wants to wait. And it looks like we no longer have a single global mod anymore. Spreading the power!

I do understand it is his call, I was only making a possible suggestion. It is his forum and he needs to do what works for him.
How does not having any global mods spread the power? Because everyone is just as powerful as each other? *ponders*

That sounds like an oxymoron, but it works.

I don't see it. Was it actually recreated? I don't remember it coming back in the first place but a lot of F&G does tend to fly over my head even when I read it all.

I don't understand why you guys are so worked up about posts, its really not the end of the world. I though that a forum was made for people to talked, not to brag about post count.
. . . .
Oh, who am I kidding? This is the internetz, all people care about is post count and lulz. *emos*

I think there's really only one person around here who cares about post counts. Personally, I'd be perfectly happy if there wasn't a count kept.

Why is it the only ones who even prioritize bringing up lower post counts over the actual missing posts in the first place (besides Erhama) are those complaining that they shouldn't be a priority?
I don't care that much about post counts, but missing posts themselves are pretty massive to me.
