Actually it's without Will Wright and Maxis we wouldn't of had Sims. And even so, we shouldn't let the fact that EA own production of the sims franchise now blind us. EA's use of SecuROM and treatment of their customers who had issues with it is why the vast majority don't like EA. Not to mention they released really buggy versions of the EPs, some bugs which were really harmful to people's gameplay. The paysite related reason: EA hasn't taken an actual stance for or against paysites. Two of the Maxoids have shown biases, but nothing has changed the EULA.

Let's start a third Operation Valkyrie!
The first was against Hitler. It failed.
The second was against Boxxy. It sorta failed.
The third will be against T$R. It won't fail.

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

Someone tell me exactly what happened and what EA has done and TSR?

I'm confused to the point of a headache. :grumpy:

(edited to insert links after getting the "OK" )

Coconut is a spy in TSR. No one knows who they are and many of us want to keep it that way for as long as we need them in TSR. (which might be a long time by the looks of things)
Coconut's journal: http://tsr.mustbedestroyed.org/
Recommended readings for new comers:
http://tsr.mustbedestroyed.org/?p=704 Calalily's Response to the Myths
http://tsr.mustbedestroyed.org/?p=717 TSR Myths and Lies

There's another entry that was good because it summed up other issues with TSR, but I can't seem to find it.

PMBD: http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/
The forum: http://phorum.mustnotbenamed.com/
But don't forget the FAQ if you want to post or you may be burned with lolcats: http://phorum.mustnotbenamed.com/index.php/topic,1104.0.html

Google Coconut + TSR and Google PMBD.

I'm not sure... Are we allowed to link them? I didn't see anything about them in the rules, but since there's such controversy I don't want to take the chance. (I like it here.) Anyway, someone who calls themselves Coconut has a blog about the messes called The True Face of TSR. It's easy to find through Google.

Weird. If this is such a problem why did it just start recently?

Now I see.

So TSR is doing something illegal and EA is ignoring it?

These Featured artist are getting paid to create things....If I was good enough to create such things...I probably would do it too but really it's wrong and illegal so it shouldn't be done at all.

Thanks Kira!

I edited my post.

Chaotic Cow: Many of us aren't even sure how much EA knows, so, it's hard to say. It's only obvious that the Maxoids are the ones aware of it and seem to be trying to hide the evidence from the people on the BBS. If EA is aware of it then they have the best end of the stick since they haven't officially associated themselves with TSR. If they feel they need to they can drop TSR any time without worry and can deny any connections they had.

I won't lock it. That's fine since it's not exactly a duplicate. It kinda veers into a different direction than this.

It didn't start recently. Some (if not most) of us that have tons of CC know that TSR is a big fraud and creates tons of problems. It might look like a shiny pretty site at first, but when you get into it, you find out and realize stuff that makes you wanna delete your account (I know I did, ages ago).

This situation, the one from the initial post, is recent because it just happened. This is another way of giving advice to those that didn't TSR until now: don't go anywhere near it. It will just give you a headache. And apparently it gives you headaches even if you're not near it now (see Buggy's case).

My personal opinion is that TSR are responsible for what happened. If they would have had their database hacked and everything, they would have announced it. Not even they are that stupid to not know what could happen if they didn't tell their users about it (see an above post, it mentions lawsuits, complains etc.).

TSR cheats us out of our money. End of.

EA has been lying and putting all sorts of bugs in our games WE buy. They hardly put alot of effort into TS3 if you think about it. It's mostly Sims 2 objects and animations converted. Their customer service isn't very helpful either.

EA made the game? Without it there wouldn't be sims?

WRONG!

Proving wrong time: Will Wright and Maxis are the cause of The Sims franchise, please look up more before putting stuff like that out there.

Offtopic: This is why I love it here. I DESPISE the Maxoids. You cannot have a discussion about anything sticky at all. I hated when they were deleting posts about SecuRom but allowing some simmers to be very hateful to anyone who bashed SecuRom. Posts like, "SecuRom Ruined My System" were instantly deleted while threads like "Go Cry Somewhere Else You Babies" were allowed. How is the latter not flaming? My favorite ever was where a simmer said her friends were picking on her for playing Sims when they were more "harcore gamers." Other simmers tried to comfort her by listing games they played and I said, "I play games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy, and I love the Sims...here's why" and then I had a paragraph about what I love about the Sims. A Maxoid came on and said she was locking the thread because we were talking about games other than the Sims 2. I said, "No, we're listing games other than the Sims 2, stop policing every little thing. If you can't do that, I can't stay here." The warning I got actually said this: "Oh yeah? Oh yeah? You weren't talking about other games huh? Here's your exact post... (inserts my post) ... And it's a good thing you were going to leave because you are about to be asked to leave." I was like, how fourth grade to be like, "Oh yeah, you don't want to play with me, well, I was just about to say I didn't want to play with you either!" I hate them so much. And I stand by my statement that listing and discussing are completely different things.

Rant over. Anyway, to quote the beautiful Mark Harmon on NCIS, "I don't believe in coincidences." I think it does sound incredibly hinky that a security breach was not immediately taken care of (by asking the community to immediately change passwords or something) and now they are like, "Oh, hey, I totally forgot man, we had, like, a security breach a while ago. Yeah, that's what happened." Fishy smell. Fishy.

I always thought TSR was such a pretty little site. And I used it a lot. I think I even paid (gasp) for like a 2 day trial once.

But thanks to this thread, and others I have seen out on MATY and such, I now know that TSR is a lying, dirty, illegal operation.

Ugh. I hate them. :yuck:

The Sims Resource is run by a bunch of money grubbing fascists who want to drain the living blood out of teenagers so that they can buy their crappy custom content. Not only does TSR force you to pay for some of the most atrocious and ugly abominations in terms of custom content, it is also very shady and not very safe with people's money. I don't know who would be stupid enough to give out their credit card information to a bunch of fascists who would sell their own mother if it could return a reasonable profit. TSR is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with capitalism and I think the Sims community should boycott the whole site.

Everyone should support MTS2, because not only do they have better custom content, they have a very friendly and helpful community and you always find good stuff there (and its free!). TSR is filled with more crap than an outhouse in Arkansas and most of it is pay, the admins are rude, self absorbed pricks and its practically impossible to navigate the site, since they like to vomit ugly flashy buttons all over our screens. The only person I've ever liked on TSR is aikea_guinea, and she's free now anyways.

The only website I despise more than TSR is PeggySims, which is basically evil incarnate. I think I lose a little bit of my soul every time I visit that pit of despair.

Yeah. Peggy Sims is horrible! Making people pay for meshes that have gaps and are incomplete and sloppy!

I am really upset to see the "return" of most of the animations, expecially the dance ones being identical. Shame EA! Shame! :nono:

I am very disturbed that www.thesimsresource.com and other sites are violating your EULA by requiring people to PAY for content made for the Sims. I am also upset that when EA did TS3 Creator Camp, the very people who are commiting illegal acts against EA were invited and showcased during the Creators Camp.

What is the official word about custom content created for The Sims? Does anyone have the right to sell YOUR work as their own?

The community is angry about this. We have been for a long time. But www.thesimsresource.com has been getting away with it forever. They are waving it under your nose and our nose. Do you plan to take any action to stop these theives?

Thanks,
