Post Basement tool with World Adventures
This is quoted from an IGN article:
Quote:
Another piece of good news for house designers is a brand-new basement tool that will finally make basement making about a billion times easier than it is currently. With it, you can create basements up to four stories deep that cover the entire breadth of a lot.

I hope this means:

1. We don't have to have foundation above it and it can go underground.
2. We can build then right next to the corners of a house, instead of 1 square in.

I'm really looking forward to seeing/hearing more about this. :)

That caught my eye too. Finally, a way to make a basement on an established home without tearing half of it down!

I have a feeling this is linked to tomb exploring. They probably had to make some easier way to make better basements to make this possible

This actually pleases me quite abit, though at the same time worries me. Worries me, because if it does what I think it will, I'll probably want to remodel my vampire mansion's basement area, which will probably take alot of rebuilding. Though I suppose I should be used to this. During my time of playing Sims 2, I almost remodeled all my houses everytime an expansion came out

I was thrilled to read this. I never bothered with basements before because it seemed like too much trouble. I'm definitely going to be learning how to use this new basement tool.

I've never attempted to make my own basement in the game, but wouldn't it be hard to see in it? I mean, doesn't the ground get in the way of seeing inside the basement?

That was usually why I didn't bother with that in the other games.
But it would be nice if it's done right.

But the larger the better for basements. It's easier to view that way.

That first little pic, should actually work, cause that's kind of how my basement is

I will agree that the bigger the basement is, the better it is to view and move around. I don't find building them really that hard though. Also, you just drop down another level if you want to see the basement area. That's kind of like saying "I can't see floor 1 from floor 2". Basement is simply another floor, only you can design it how far down you want it

My vampire mansion has a whinding staircase to the deep bottom, kind of like that one Sims 2 house in the Nightlife EP with the vampire bed at the bottom. Though my basement isn't 'that' deep

I find it's easiest to layout your foundation first. Plan ahead on how you want the floor to look. After that, you hollow out the area you want the basement to be and start shaping it. Then you add in your stairs and cover it up with flooring. It's much harder to build a basement if you already have a built house, cause you'll most likely have to move things around or remodel. I'm not sure in what way the basement tool is going to make it easier though. Either way, I'm looking forward to it

Ooh, does this mean we can have retaining walls as well?
My main guess for this is making tombs for the Egypt area - the 'old faithful' method not only looks really ugly, but the community have been asking for something like this since TS2. They're pretty much killing two birds with one stone here.

Maybe they will add in more features like this throughout the EP.

I think the screen shots in the link on the front page show what the basement tool is capable of. If I'm not mistaken, I believe those shots of the sim inside were built with the basement tool, which seems to be linked to the tomb exploring as I thought it would probably be

I'm looking more forward to play around with the basement tool now

Wow, it might be worth buying the EP just to be able to build a real basement! That would rock, I'm interested to see if it actually happens.
