This is probably why Sims 3 is so strangely coded and has so many bugs. As many of us speculated when Sims 3 was first leaked, it was always intended to be played on consoles...

R.I.P Sims franchise as we once knew it. Hello console-friendly, microtransactioned, DRM, bug-ridden Sims for dummies.

For all the people who don't have high-end PC's, this is extremely good news. :smile2:

(reads description first time):excited: :ohyeah:

(reads again)

I've got a wii and a DS, and well the games will be great in their own ways, I'm pretty sure you'll only get to control and save one family at a time, and the wii will be almost the same but different graphically. It would be near impossible to have a multi family save file in wii, I mean the hard drive is only 512MB

I hoped that The Sims 3 on console would come pre-packed with some cheap sims branded 2GB SD card, so that its saves wouldn't clog up what little hard drive space the wii and cheaper PS3's have. If would only cost them $3-4 extra per copy.

And what will EA do when the Nintendo 3DS comes out (potentially this fall).

The problem with "yay cheap programming" is that consoles have limitations PCs don't have. Specifically they have limitations on exactly the sorts of functions you would need to build an open-ended world tool, exactly like The Sims.

Porting Sims to console is virtually guaranteed to be the root cause of many past, current and future problems of the game, and limitations in playability, flexibility, scalability, and the ability to expand the game world in new ways.

I have been expecting a somewhat Q3 2010 release on consoles and handhelds for quite some time, and now its here.

As a huge fan of the console versions of The Sims Series i am left a little underwhelmed at the fact this game is looking very much like a port and not a new title. The console versions always boast great (and sometimes lackluster) story-lines along with the customization which is signature to the series, however this does not seem to be the case with this title.

For me without anything remotely new, such as a story mode, purchasing this game would be a sheer waste of time. So heres hoping that this title is just as good as previous console and handheld titles.

The Sims for PS2 was a great game. But EA have gone a different route this time and ported the same game to the PS3 & Xbox 360, and although this is good news for people who can't play the on PC's, it doesn't look like it will have a storymode.

The Wii will be downgraded and probably a town will many loading screens and probably a storymode.

The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 screenshots look identical to the PC screenshots, which must mean it's a direct port, so really the PC game on consoles, this is great for me because I don't have a high-end PC, but people that do won't gain much from buying it. You won't be able to download CC, mods, or make movies, but I don't do these things anyway, so I'm really happy EA have done this.

Erm, what? Save files on Wii and PS3/360 aren't generally that big, a couple of megabytes, if not that. They don't need an SD card to store save files, at all. The PS3's hard drive space is also big enough to store the exchange stuff people can download, not to mention people can upgrade their hard drives quite easily.

The only thing you should really be concerned about is whether or not the PS3 version of the game will have a mandatory install upon start-up. Generally those PS3 games that do require around 3-5GB, which is a lot if you're a 20GB PS3 owner that hasn't upgraded their hard drive just yet. I imagine the game will have one to store textures and things for Create-a-Style since the PS3's Blu-ray speed is quite slow. That is of course if that feature is included in the game. I imagine it is since the game has the Exchange, unless that's only for Sims and Lots.

One would think that without having to worry about people still running ten year old computers, they'd be able to make it look better.

Apparently not.

The wii has next to no space, I seem to recall the MySims save took up half my wii's hard-drive. The Sims 3 would probably need more.
