Okay, so I basically want to make a grocery store and have the owners live above the store. the only thing is, when you make a business on a residental lot, you can't visit it with other families. That greatly bothers me...
So is there a way to by-pass that?

If i make it as a community lot, zone it into residental, get the families to move in, then re-zone it as commerical, will that work? Or something?

Is there a hack that lets you live on community lots?

I was just wondering if there are "side-effects" I have com-skilling, but can you not have children? It's just annoying and confusing because I want to make this realistic, but can't seem to do this correctly.

It will work like residential, but you won't be able to reproduce, at least I think so. :/
