Post Answer to Overpopulation is Colonization
I'm tired of everyone saying that the human race is overpopulating the planet.

I want to live on Mars, dang it!

The universe allows for an near-infinite population of people.

A new era is upon us, not a sun rise, but a galaxy rise.

We're still kinda screwed until we DO manage to colonise another planet though...

Why? Please be specific? Asteroid, oh yeah, we're pretty screwed.

Colonising Mars is actually possible, though. Extremely expensive, yeah, but I'm sure if every millionaire or billionaire in the world gave half of their money to space projects (with the other half going to starving people, obviously), and we got rid of pointless stuff like The X Factor, the money would be raised in no time!

But, yeah, it astounds me that people don't place more importance in space travel. The entire survival of our race will one day depend on it, and yet they keep cutting funds to NASA because, I don't know, the rest of the Universe isn't important because it's Not Here.

Travelling outside of the solar system would be a bit more difficult, but I've read theories on how it's possible, without having to invent vast new technologies which involve the creation of wormholes, or whatever. There's the idea of a Generation Ship, where many generations live their lives until they reach the destination. Which doesn't really sound ideal. However, if there were to be some advances in artificial hibernation (which I think could happen in the near future), this might not be neccesary. Another idea (though I'm not sure how accurate this is) would be to have nuclear powered rockets, which would be far faster. We also of course need to actually find more Earth-like planets, as we wouldn't want to have to both colonise and terraform at such a distance, like we can with Mars.

This is so funny I found a topic about this.

I did my senior project about World Overpopulation, had to write a 10 page research paper and present it to judges.

But I mainly talked about how Overpopulation happened and what it will do to the planet and ourselves.

Anyway I definitely believe we're eventually (in a couple 100 years) going to have a population crash and the population will drop significantly. Even though that may temporarily fix the population problem, it won't fix the permanent damage humans have done to the environment.

Sad thing. o_o

OH WELL. Be grateful we won't be alive to see such disasters. :)

Teqkilla, I think you are on to something. But seriously, people like the family that have the tv show "18 kids and counting", or however many they have, they need to pick 2 to 3 of there favorite children and kill off the rest.

IF everyone just had 3 or less children, the population would slow down so much more in population!!! (I know, with 3, it should grow, but the 3rd child will offset murders, cancer deaths, gay people, people that hate kids, or people that only have one kid).

Also, Tess, we won't live to see such disasters? 2012, anyone?!? jk

Colonisation of Mars will be another Scramble for Africa, and we all know how that turned out. Mars may not have life to enslave but we've fucked up our planet enough. We don't need to fuck up another.
